Interesting Reading

I read in an article, figures that grain production in the old Russia is beginning to increase significantly.  It seemed aggressive and progressive farmers within the developed world and particularly southern Africa (many white South Africans) have established large successful businesses in the Ukraine based on introducing large scale best practice winter crop production.  The grain production increase has been mainly on the vast plains of deep heavy and relatively fertile soils.

It seems the level of increase in production has been dramatic and increasing interest has been taken in that part of the world.  More recently, the Russian and Ukrainian governments have indicated a desire to support grain production and encourage increase of exports which will no doubt lead to competition with Australian farmers.

It is obvious agribusiness is taking on an even greater global approach to food fibre production and is seeking out new business opportunities.  There will be risks involved in this and no doubt political risk will be one of those risks.  However, it does demonstrate a desire to meet the challenges that are being imposed.
